Josh Dubin

A nationally renowned civil rights and post-conviction lawyer, Josh Dubin is the Executive Director of the Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice at Cardozo Law (PCLJ). The PCLJ works to free the wrongfully incarcerated and individuals serving unjust sentences. The PCLJ is home the Freedom Clinic at Cardozo Law, where law students help investigate and litigate convictions that were based on the misuse of scientific evidence. The Freedom Clinic also works to obtain clemency for individuals who have been unjustly incarcerated. An outspoken and dedicated advocate, Josh has served as lead trial counsel in countless exonerations. His approach to post-conviction work has garnered wide praise. Former federal judge John Gleeson, who served on the Federal Sentencing Commission under President Biden, noted, “Josh Dubin has many talents, which include being a supremely talented consultant on trial strategy and jury selection, but he is also a superb post-conviction advocate. Whether he’s challenging the wrongful conviction of an innocent client or seeking to reduce an excessive sentence, he is among the most rigorous, thorough, careful, and successful lawyers in America.” ABC’s 20/20 regarded Josh as the “leading lawyer, jury and legal consultant on major criminal cases.” He co-authored a book entitled The Law of Juries from Thomson Reuters, which referred to him as a “master strategist” and “secret weapon.” His co-author, former United States federal judge Nancy Gertner, praised him by saying “he completely masters the details of the case, and brings to bear not only legal analysis, but also the teachings of social psychology, his multiple areas of expertise.”
